Event Description
Education Series: Rachel Evans & JP Meldrum on Analog & DIY Cinema
CineVic’s second instalment of the Education Series will be a demonstration on what YOU can create using analog film and DIY techniques. Local filmmaker, Rachel Evans, will talk you through CineVic’s newest Bolex camera and macro lenses, her experimentation process, and affordable ways to create your own 16mm films. Destroyed Cinema’s JP Meldrum will then follow with a chat on Victoria’s DIY film scene and the history of DIY filmmakers. This will be the independent film night of your dreams!
Rachel Evans is a compulsive creator, driven by a love of experimentation and process. She has followed her curiosity into many different fields of work and study including environmental work, education and the commercial film industry. Primarily inspired by nature, her art focuses on biological processes and human relationships to the natural world. She studied sculpture and drawing at the University of Victoria, animation and analogue filmmaking at Quickdraw Animation Society, and Environmental Monitoring at the University of Northern BC. Currently she lives in Victoria, BC where she works as a Park Naturalist, gleaning daily inspiration for her next analogue film from the forests, beaches and fields.
JP Meldrum is a musician, author, filmmaker, and co-founder of Destroyed Cinema. He’s directed 4 films, written a novel, and released 50+ albums since 2012. He is preoccupied with genre, proliferation, anti-perfectionism, and self-reliance outside of the industry
