VICTORIA BC SKA SOCIETY User Info... | This is a copy of a CD review written by by Tim Connolly about Two and a Half White Guys. You'll see more of them in the very near future CD Review Title: Two and a Half White Guys Artist: Two and a Half White Guys Once in a while, a ska CD comes along, grabs hold of you, and won't let go. Two And A Half White Guys have finally released their long-awaited full-length album; 16 tracks that announce they've got more bounce per ounce. Ska legend Chris Murray joins them on "Can You Feel That" and the results are astounding. Nate Robinson is the captain of this band, and his sparkling combination of Marley-esque vocals and skanky guitar rhythms are straight from the top shelf. Dan Nelson handles the bass like a natural (he's actually a sax man). The drums and percussion are handled with punchy pop by Marko Fagg, while Sluggo wreaks peaceful havoc on trumpet and Marc Nuttal brings the sax attacks. Curt is simply a wonder on guitar. Cross-pollinate the styles of David Gilmour and Peter Tosh, and that's Curt. Fender Rhodes electric piano is operated masterfully by Rob Ringger, and the sound blends in sweetly. The flow of songs like "William" and "What Profiteth A Man" are about as close as you'll come to hearing mellow ska played to perfection. "Bruce's Joint" is sprinkled throughout the disc, in three parts, and each one invokes a subtle change in mood. Interesting stuff. "Carpool To Washington" rocks along with a determined vibrancy, and this track would get any crowd on their feet. "Feel The Reggae" delivers a lively rhythm with a fuzz-wah guitar, and brings lyrics such as "a fatty on Friday at seven after payday, and everything seems to make itself all right". "The Thing" is the real find on this album, and you'll feel like you're underwater as you listen to the grooves. "Gone Are The Days" begins with a familiar sample from the Blazing Saddles film (guess which one?). About three minutes into Track 16, the patient listener is greeted with a "hidden" reggae vibe that can only be described as revolutionary. By the ninth minute, you'll be good and hypnotized. Keep the Visine bottle handy. There's great jazz, rock-and-roll, and rock-steady ska rolled into one here folks. Fans of Sublime and Pink Floyd, rejoice! Your next favorite album has arrived!
