Anonymous How many people were there? I opted for K-Os instead because I figured The Dears would be back soon enough. - Wed, 25 Jun 2003 3:31pm
Anonymous They had a good turn out, it wasn't packed but for once I didn't feel bad for the band playing to an empty Lucky Bar, seeing bands come over here to play for no one is so sad. - Wed, 25 Jun 2003 4:25pm
someoneontheotherside in short: jets rocked, dears blew.

in long:
jets overhead had a tight strong set. wicked good sound (pat yourself on the back nick), especially the bass tone. the audience seemed into it.

the dears were fairly solid as musicians although the harmonies seems a bit painful at times (but that might have been intentional). i thought they had some cool ideas, but failed to pull them off. the lead singer's stage presence was just annonying. (Rant on: you're songs are cool, but not enough to justify that posturing rockstar bullshit. you're not lenny kravitz. : rant Off). keyboard players seemed bored with what they were given to do. the drummer was great. overall it was slow depressing music that was annoying rather than touching.

my $0.02 - Wed, 25 Jun 2003 4:30pm
ho hum Yeah, it's true about the rockstar posturing. The Dears used to be my favourite band a while ago, when they used write good songs. Before they replaced them with egomania and 5 minute guitar solos. Oh well. It was a pretty good show, though - good musicianship, decent dynamics, good sound (I guess the reason the sound is normally so bad is just that the house techs really suck... who knew?).

Jets Overhead were neither good nor bad enough to inspire any review at all. - Wed, 25 Jun 2003 5:15pm
thunderous i definitely take issue with whats been said about lucky's normal sound. the sound there is dependably clean, full, and, well, good. on the whole, though, the sound last night was heads above the norm for lucky.

the dears, while obviously at the more self-indulgent end of the spectrum, had some truly shining moments. their stage show was a bit lacking, but i felt that had they been flailing around, the intricacies of the music might have suffered - Wed, 25 Jun 2003 6:26pm
wally the dears are lame. i saw them last time they were here and all of them except the guitar player who doesn't sing lead were complete jack asses, totally full of themselves. last night was weak proving that they have gotten worse. maybe it was the opnening stint for matthew good that fucked them over. toss them in the vault along with treble charger, o.l.p., tea party and all other "canadiana" acts out there making the canadian music scene even less reputible. - Wed, 25 Jun 2003 7:00pm

whoa whoa, I think the dears bashing has gone a little far. whatever posturing they may have done at the show, they still are making amazing music that is far ahead of anything current canadian acts are doing. And you know, if you think on the level of phoenetic vocal connections then the dears didn't do any more posturing than morrissey did. - Thu, 26 Jun 2003 1:54am
Anonymous No one has done more posturing than Morrissey.

Ever. - Thu, 26 Jun 2003 4:18am
Anonymous i like the dears.
so fuck you all. - Thu, 26 Jun 2003 10:13am
smallmind=smalldick Wow just because they don't play the fucking mindless punk/metal that most of the boneheads on this site are into doesn't mean that they suck. Yes you livevic losers, there is more to music that how fast you can hit a snare and how many times you can say fuck in a song I always laugh at how excited some of you people get over the crappiest forms of music around then totally slag bands that are actually doing something a bit DIFFERENT or at least trying to be original. - Thu, 26 Jun 2003 10:46am

smallmind = smalldick: Buddy there were 2 people who disagreed with your opinion about the Dears (as is their perogative) and you go off on a lame rant about Punk and Metal music. You sound like one of those misanthropic, uptight, pompous, arrogant "indie" rocker know it alls. Here's the deal - I've seen the Dears once and wasn't too impressed - but that's just my opinion. However, I have seen many of the bands you slag as playing "mindless punk/metal" and I gotta say I like alot of 'em better than the Dears. Now you don't hear me slagging "indie" (or whatever people call it) rock bands when somebody slags a band I like... 'cause who cares, it's just one jackasses opinion.... What I don't like about the Dears is their style and sound. I generally like music with a little more balls and a little less wanking. But that's my preference - and that doesn't mean the Dears suck - it just means I think they suck....... - Fri, 27 Jun 2003 2:21am

Rock Star posturing? What the fuck? I didn't really see it. They were eating dinner among the commoners at the start of the show, too. Go back to the punk show. - Fri, 27 Jun 2003 3:07am
