Helonwheels User Info... | Man that was a rockin night! It was pretty much a reunion , so many faces that I had not seen in ages and it was a absolute blast. Faces of Black slayed, love them! Sweathogs layed it down for the crowd sweetly and The Shivs well if ya were there then you know it was a frickin riot!! Blind Mark was off the stage more than on it, not sure how he falls like that then doesn't miss a beat! Very impressive. So happy that The Cambie is back, these kind of nights make ya sure happy that you left the house. So many smiling faces, good times being had, rock the heck on. Thanks to Brain for getting us back to the jam spot for all night jammin, I'm still recovering. - Mon, 22 Mar 2004 6:32am
anti-blue-up User Info... | Damn, that was a lot of fun! Faces of Black gets better every time I see them. I'm officially a fan. The drummer is so good it's almost hypnotic. Ashamed to admit that was my first time seeing the Sweathogz and I was not disappointed. You don't see the slide guitar getting busted out to much anymore so that ruled. The Shivs were totally awesome. I'm glad I was pissed since every song seemed to be about getting pissed. I think the singer fell off stage no less than three times but he could still belt out the tunes on queue. Plus, the Cambie rocks. It really is a good venue for bands. Even the in-between music was awesome (thank you to the DJ). You don't hear stuff like that at any other bar. The staff there are so damn nice...even the bouncers are polite! What a nice change from some of the other bars in town (who shall remain nameless). Aaanyway, it was the perfect finale to a long week of shows. - Mon, 22 Mar 2004 6:52am

ricky long User Info... | I wrote this a few days ago but lost me password... anyway hears my babble.... Sat Mar 22 Cambie AHHH yes Esquimalt. The Cambie on a saturday night. The First band was a female voice driven group, which is always nice for a change. The singer sounded a little like old Brit punk band X-ray Spex or maybe a little Girlschool?? Forgive me Im old. The next band was the steady weed-a-billy/punk band called the Sweathogz. The audience picked up on this band and they played a well rounded set of (if you knew the lyrics) sing a-longs with slide guitar. Hardcore is a style of punk that has been around for twenty years. I have to claim ignorance on what is new in the Victoria Hardcore scene but from what I have seen at a few local bars is mighty impressive. I will have to try to to hit a All Ager and see bands like AK-47 or Tough as Nails. Now historically a movement of hardcore came out of the early eighties call Straight Edge. If you don't own any Minor Threat ... slap yourself now and run down to the local small record store and buy some! Minor Threat and Straight Edge...Tonight at the Cambie it went to the full other end of the scale. It was called Blind Drunk Core and the band was The SHIVS!!! I bought the singer Blind Mark, who is infact somewhat blind, two gin and tonics and i'm sure he put a few more drinks in his gut. The Shivs took to the stage and the energy was full force. Blind Mark is a front man that isn't boring! He feels the music he is singing and I'm sure he lives the music he is singing. Hardcore that takes me back, as well as entertaining. Mark takes some heavy falls as the booze becomes introduced into his bloodstream, but he still belts out the hits like Bomb the Hippies and a fistful of songs about drinking, and sandwitches. It's something else and to top it all off the rest of his band is a incredible splat of local musicians.. you get the incredible bass player from AWT, the grinding guitarist from Self Inflicted? (i think) and the old drummer from Platinum Blonde, dustin jak.... what more could you ask for. To see a SHIVS show is a most memorable event. -ricky (old kook bowl carver) long - Thu, 25 Mar 2004 4:19pm
