Founded in 2001 as an acoustic solo project, Jasamine White-Gluz used her experiences as journalist and musician in the punk music scene of Montreal to help define the original Bad Flirt sound. Jasamine used her punk rock DIY attitude and indie pop sensibility to put together Songs for Traffic, a 3-song demo that included that hugely popular track My Expensive Hobby. The demo garnered immediate attention from the underground music scenes. Soon afterwards Bad Flirt released the 7 song EP The August Issues and completed a year of constant touring.
After slugging it as a solo artist for 3 years, done numerous tours by Greyhound and played music up and down the east coast, bubble-gum post punkette Jasamine finally decided to saddle up and make Bad Flirt the noisy pop rock band it needed to be. Gone are the sweet acoustic ballads, in are the electric anthemic hooks and sugar-coated melodies.
Enlisting Montreal scenesters Edmund Lam, Heidi Donnelly and Mark Greenberg in the Fall of 2004, the quartet played two under-the-radar local shows and jumped right into recording 6 Ways To Break Your Heart, a catchy yet compelling album written by both Jasamine and the collective.
From the charmingly chaotic dance punk Kisses, Kisses to the tragically blissful Heartbreaker, Bad Flirt create lush, melancohlic songs that fuse post-rock and pop. Closing with the insta-classic This Song is Romance, 6 Ways to Break Your Heart is a great re-introduction to one of the most treasured songwriters in Montreal’s blossoming indie music scene.
Live shows ranged from the intense to the insane, with Bad Flirt including a regular Twister game tournament in every set. Bad Flirt retains its fervent punk spirit and bridges it with smart- pop, with all the fuzz of My Bloody Valentine, the melodies of Jimmy Eat World and the sugariness of Juliana Hatfield. Now playing across Canada in support of their new album, Bad Flirt is ready to break your heart. - Tue, 2 Aug 2005 8:28pm
