Children were playing in the field in front of Central Middle School Sunday afternoon only hours after police removed a body from the scene of Victoria's second homicide in less than a month.

The body of a 34-year-old Victoria man was discovered on the grounds of the school, at 1280 Yates Street, just after 4 a.m. Sunday after police received a phone call, Const. Rick Anthony said. The victim, whose name has not been released, was not known to police, Anthony said.

On Sunday, Yates Street was closed from Fernwood Road to Cook Street until about 11 a.m. Camosun Street, from Yates to Johnson streets, was also closed.

It's standard police procedure to establish a large crime scene at the beginning of homicide investigations, Anthony said.

"In general when it comes to policing, it's easier to downsize a crime scene than expand upon it," Acting Sgt. Derek Tolmie said.

Witnesses said they saw police remove a body from the front parking lot of the school just after 10 a.m.

Officers spent the morning knocking on doors around the neighbourhood and asking residents if they saw anything suspicious in the area, police said. There are no suspects at this time, police said.

The night shift crew at the Yates Street Fire Hall, directly across the street, responded to a medical aid call early Sunday morning, Victoria fire battalion chief Ron Stubbington said, but returned to the station when they were told by police the man had died.

Danny Harris, who lives next door to the school, said he was home all night Saturday but didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.

"My roommate's room is right at the back [adjacent to the school lot] and she didn't hear anything either," Harris said.

The weekend killing is Victoria's third homicide of the year. On April 30, the body of 58-year-old David Boivin was found under the Johnson Street Bridge. Donovan Robert Roloson and Brent Stephen Martin, both 18, are charged with second-degree murder.

Bruk Abera, 20, was stabbed to death in the 2600 block of Graham Street on June 20.

Randal James Bailey was later charged with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Although, the article reads that the individual found on Central Middle School property 'was not known to police', that it would be safe to say this wasn't Griphin who was found.

I actually, hope this is not Griphin, that if anyone sees or hears from him, please tell him, i WANT MY 2 DOLLARS!! - Mon, 17 Jul 2006 4:40pm

*grin* You hinting about something?!? That was an odd murder, perhaps it was drug related? (Yeah, I know, it's the easiest thing to think about when you hear of a murder) - Mon, 17 Jul 2006 6:49pm

nah, besides, I have an alibi, so I guess you could say, since you appear to still be walking the 'free earth' _Griphin_; with my two dollars...... "was not known to police"

I was concerned about my '2 dollars' didn't wind up in a body bag. (Without paying me first...)

Is that 'Heh' as in. 'Huh?' or "heh", as in 'heh' meaning like.. Concerned that I'm tracking you down for that show, that went down badly at *Undisclosed location on Cook St.), or the fact, that something that you are trying to hide, as in. "Heh," this fucker seems serious.. "Heh,"... "I wonder if he'll make me pay it if he sees me?"

Answer is.... 'Hez'.

Apparently, a bartender who knows you, says it doesn't sound like you. That his description of you doesn't match..

Somehow for me, this is going to take a little more convincing beyond asto: what discernment is role playing here for the moment- questionably_ as "the sources" unproviding, are now _seemingly invisible to trace_

But if I recollect that IT IS _Griphin_ who fucked over the Neo Nasties and H.K.B. that evening back in early May 2005?

Then...

But I've never been to a Hong Kong Blonde show, remember, last show I remember seeing (I think) was the LiD CD release party at Logans (I was bored, no offense, it was an awesome gig), then I got all Head Injury wierd and I stopped going to shows (social situations bore the hell out of me now, plus there's certain people I don't wanna run into, sad cause I used to be really enthusiastic about supporting local talent). And I'll probably never see another live band anymore (unless I see a gig by accident). You can thank the morons that beat the piss out of me for my headspace. BTW: I wish I could drink the same alcohol you've apparently been drinking, then again, no Listerine for me, thanks. - Wed, 19 Jul 2006 10:29am Edited: Wed, 19 Jul 2006 8:25pm

Uh, yeah, sorry dude, I feel for ya, for some cross-breeded, mixed-up-reason that I had you pegged for the 2 dollars, but somehow, if I can accept your honesty? You've got nothing to worry about. Apparently, you're white apparently and not red skinned, so, was said, but for who or what happened to you, over the concussion/brain damage situation, sounds pretty low.

THey don't scare me.

I don't think they should scare you.

Cheers. - Fri, 21 Jul 2006 11:12am
